In India there are more than 500 million social media users. Yet most of these social media platforms are owned by the foreign companies like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram etc. Many Indians don't know that India has its own version of Facebook and Twitter. Here is the list of some made in India social media platforms : Elyments, Opined, Squeaks, Koo, Flick, TokBiz, Happspot, Pixalive, Peppty India's social network, Yarabook, Yoro, Zihvah, Namaste Chat.

1. Elyments

Elyments app was launched on 5 July 2020 by the Honourable Vice President of India M. Venkaiah Naidu a new social media platform under the Aatmanirbhar Bharat Campaign. 

Elyments the homegrown app has been built keeping users privacy in mind, as primary. Data of Elyments users is stored in India and user data will never be shared with a third party . The Elyments app is available in 8 different Indian regional languages. In Elyments app users can make audio and video calls including conference calls and private group chats and much more.

Elyments app is created by sumeru software solutions it has all basic features brought together like contacts, friends and followers where users can use it like whatsapp and the discover option where users can follow celebrities, athletes, politicians etc. Notification bar has been replaced with alerts that lets users track friends request and other activities such as like, comments and post.

2. Opined

Opined is founded by Vipul Gajera in December 2018 headquarters located in Mumbai, India. Opined is a user originated blogging platform that allows readers to read the information based on numerous topics like business, movies, sports, politics and many more. Readers can also share, discuss and write their opinion on the Opined platform without fear of getting Judge, Bias or Troll. 

3. Squeaks

Squeaks media is an unique Indian platform with lots of features. Squeaks was launched on 15 August 2020. 

Features

 Timeline with 640 characters limit, Hashtag, Geolocation tags, Squeaks, post text, image, audio, video, like and share. One or multiple picture posting, one or multi video posting. One to one or one to many chat messaging voice calls or video calls between mutual followers.

Squeaks groups and pages : users can create Squeaks private or public group and brand pages.

Squeaks launchpad : Here people can create their own business and advertisement offers and can advertise their business.

Squeaks shops : Here users can create their online store and can sell physical or digital products just like eBay.

4. Koo

Koo is a India's answer to Twitter for no–english user. Koo was selected as one of the winners in the government Digital India Aatmanirbhar Bharat Innovation challenge. 

Koo, has been co-founded by Aprameya Radakrishna and Mayank Bidawatka in March 2020. Koo the micro–blogging platform is currently available in 4 Indian languages including Hindi, Tamil, Telugu and Kannada but some more language will be added. 

Koo allows users to post their koo through 400 limits of text or 1- minutes short video or audio. Koo users can also follow people, send one to one direct message and can use hyper local hashtags on koo.

5. Flick 

Flick social networking app was introduced by Looptime private limited on 10 September 2019. Flick has a lot of features like send or receive messages, photo, calls, videos and voice message safely. Users can add story in text messages, image or video formats that users wants to share with their friends and family.

Users can search for their friends or any other people by their names or by phone number. Users can send instant chat request to their friends. In the Flick app users can send unlimited video, photos or any other format file such as PDF, PPT, Word, ZIP, Excel, MP³ and many more.

6. TokBiz

TokBiz is a pune based startup consiste of 12 IT students launched on 9 June 2017. On TokBiz app users can chat, connect with other's, can do business and they can alsosearch for jobs. TokBiz allow users to chat with others similar to whatsapp post pictures and videos like Facebook and put things for sale and buy like olx, and even seek jobs.

7. Pixalive 

Pixalive is founded by Rajasekhar sundaresan on 1 August 2108. It's headquarters is located in Chennai, India. 

Pixalive is a social media app with stylish, colourful and disappearing option. Pixalive is social networking application where users can post voice note along with text, pictures and videos. In Pixalive there is a “ Disappear” option. This option allows users to remove photo, video, voice note or text according to their wish. In Pixalive user can get news, play games from the list of 300+ games that is built-in app and lot more features. 

8. Peppty India's social network 

Peppty is a social network that gives important to privacy and anonymity. Peppty is founded by Akhilesh Nandagiri. In this app users can like or comment on any post in private mode. In this app users can view who has seen their post. Users can share their post with global option and get approved to show your posts to all the Peppty users to gain followers. 

9. Yarabook

Yarabook or YB (a short form of Yarabook) is a Indian social network. Yarabook has a lot of features like funding system, profile match system, custom news feeds, business pages, follow system, community and groups, jobs system, shop and marketplace, boost page and post system, album blog and articles, games and movies and much more. 

10. Yoro

Yoro supports both Hindi and English language. Yoro has some interesting features like schedule post. Trending photos and videos sorted for users interest, just by selecting categories, users can enjoy unlimited songs, video, whatsapp status and much more. In Yoro app there is a feature where users can edit video and can add their favourite music or sound. In this app thier is inbuilt Meme creator. Yoro was released in 2 Jan 2018. 

11. Zihvah

Zihvah–indian social micro-blogging platform supports Sanskrit language. In Zihvah there is a limit of 480 characters, users can message privately. Zihvah was released on 17 September 2107.
